Last weekend four of CRST’s volunteers and committee members visited the Welsh Mountain Zoo to meet with the Red Squirrel and Pine Marten keeper Tom. We had a very interesting talk about the conservation of these two beautiful endangered species. The Welsh Mountain Zoo is extremely important to the survival of both species as they run a breeding programme which allows reintroduction of new red squirrels and pine marten into the wild, in fact they hold the stud book of all captive bred red squirrels in this country. We have been lucky enough to have had squirrels from the zoo which have been released into Clocaenog Forest and very shortly we should have four more.
